Al Wakrah is both a municipality and the second biggest city of Qatar. In the past Al Wakrah used to be the capital city of Qatar but this is no longer so. Located south of the present capital Doha it is bordered by the Persian Gulf to the east. The main industry of the Al Wakrah region is still the fishing industry like it was many years ago. Al Wakrah is also the home of the local soccer team featuring their own football stadium capable of holding 20,000 spectators. With its rich cultural history the region of Al Wakrah is possibly a more laid back destination than the hub of the capital.
